The ESV Division

The ESV (Environments for Simulation and Validation) Division is part of the 'Department 4' of CENA. ESV aims at providing CENA's projects with means of simulation and operational validation.

The simulation facilities developed by ESV include:

  • The MASS air traffic generator,
  • The air traffic control (ATC) simulator called DAARWIN,
  • The simulation interconnection gateway called SIMINGA,
  • The GANDDAALF component, which makes it possible to feed ATC simulators with radar and flight plan data from different sources,
  • The library of re-usable software components, which either come from ESV's own developments, or from other CENA teams. For instance, the trajectory predictors were developed by the TCC division,
  • The integrated workshop called EXPRESSO for the preparation the simulation exercises (not necessarily on PEGASE).

These various simulators are integrated with each other so as to constitute the comprehensive air- and ground ATC simulation platform PEGASE.

These simulators are used both within the context of CENA's in-house projects, and in European cooperations, like the PD3 project from EUROCONTROL's PHARE programme, the AVENUE project from the European Commision's 4th framework programme, and more recently the MFF, and Gate to Gate 2005 projects.

The activity of the ESV Division is structured into two programmes: the "Validation" and the "Simulation" programmes.
